What the record says.
Guangzhou Automobile Group is a state-owned car maker controlled by the Guangdong provincial government, listed in Hong Kong since 2010 and Shanghai since 2012. It sold 1,916,615 vehicles in 2025, down on earlier years, and leans on its GAC Toyota and GAC Honda joint ventures.
The humanoid programme is an in-house R&D effort led by Zhang Aimin. GAC showed a little-documented first generation, a second-generation wheeled machine in early December 2024, and on 26 December 2024 the third-generation GoMate. GoMate has 38 degrees of freedom and a wheel-leg base that switches between a 1.4 m four-wheel stance and a 1.75 m two-wheel stance; GAC claims this cuts energy use by over 80 percent against comparable robots and quotes six hours per charge from solid-state batteries. Both are unverified company figures.
GAC's stated plan was to mass-produce components such as hands, servo drives and axial-flux joint motors in 2025, run pilots on its own campuses and with Guangzhou security firms, then move to small-batch robot production in 2026 and larger volumes later. Security patrol, dealership after-sales service and line inspection were named as first uses. No unit numbers, customer contracts or external deployments have been published, so GoMate remains an internal demonstrator rather than a product.
