Wandercraft

Wandercraft is a Paris company founded in 2012 whose real business is medical exoskeletons: self-balancing walking frames that let paraplegic patients stand and walk without crutches. Its Atalante X rehabilitation system holds two FDA clearances and, per the company's June 2025 release, is used in more than 100 rehabilitation centres, where about 2,500 people have taken a combined 14 million steps. A personal exoskeleton, Eve, was in clinical trials at two US centres with a market launch targeted for 2026. Matthieu Masselin is CEO and a co-founder.

The humanoid is a by-product of that work. Calvin-40 was assembled in 40 days in 2025 by reusing the exoskeleton's actuators and balance control, with Nvidia Isaac software, and is aimed at heavy physical tasks in car plants. Renault Group is its first customer and took a minority stake in Wandercraft, with a strategic partnership to help scale production.

On 11 June 2025 Wandercraft announced a USD 75 million Series D from Renault, Bpifrance's PSIM fund, Teampact Ventures and Quadrant Management. On 2 September 2026 Bloomberg reported the company was seeking a further EUR 100 million, with Renault preparing to deploy hundreds of Calvin robots. That plan has not been confirmed with delivered numbers, and Wandercraft's humanoid remains far less proven than its exoskeletons.
