What the record says.
Google DeepMind is Alphabet's AI research arm, built on the London lab founded in 2010 by Demis Hassabis, Shane Legg and Mustafa Suleyman and owned by Google since 2014. It does not build robot hardware. Its role in humanoids is to supply the models that other companies' robots run on, which makes it a supplier and research partner rather than a maker.
The Gemini Robotics line started on 12 March 2025 with a vision-language-action model and a separate embodied reasoning model, Gemini Robotics ER. Gemini Robotics On-Device followed on 24 June 2025, and 1.5 versions of both models came later in 2025. On 30 July 2026 DeepMind announced Gemini Robotics 2, ER 2 and On-Device 2, demonstrated on Apptronik's Apollo 2 walking, crouching and shelving objects and on a two-arm Franka setup. DeepMind says the model can adapt to a new robot body in a few hours and that it works with more than 100 trusted testers.
Hardware partners named on the model page are Agile Robots, Apptronik and Boston Dynamics. Apptronik has been a strategic partner since December 2024 and Boston Dynamics said at CES in January 2026 that Gemini Robotics would go into Atlas, with DeepMind receiving Atlas units in 2026. No DeepMind-powered humanoid is in commercial service; everything public so far is research demos and pilots.
