What the record says.
Agility Robotics was founded in 2015 by Jonathan Hurst, Damion Shelton and Mikhail Jones as a spin-off from Oregon State University's Dynamic Robotics Laboratory, home of the ATRIAS biped. Cassie, a legs-only research platform, came first; Digit, a full humanoid, was first tested with Ford. The company is based in Salem, Oregon, where the RoboFab plant announced in 2023 has a stated capacity of 10,000 robots a year, far above output to date.
It raised a USD 150 million Series B led by DCVC and Playground Global, later added Amazon's Industrial Innovation Fund and Schaeffler as investors, and in 2025 was reported by GeekWire to be raising USD 400 million led by WP Global with SoftBank at a USD 1.75 billion pre-money valuation. Peggy Johnson became CEO in 2024. The company rebranded as Agility in March 2026.
On 24 June 2026 it agreed to go public through a merger with Churchill Capital Corp XI at a USD 2.5 billion pre-money value and over USD 620 million in expected proceeds. Digit had then logged more than 65,000 hours at nine customer sites (GXO, Schaeffler, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Mercado Libre) and the company claimed over USD 300 million in multi-year contracted orders for Digit v5. Unit counts are undisclosed. Johnson puts home humanoids ten or more years out.

Cassie
Cassie was a legs-only bipedal robot derived from Oregon State University's ATRIAS research and sold by Agility Robotics to universities from 2017. Its ostrich-like legs became a common platform for reinforcement learning locomotion research. It set a 100 m record for bipedal robots in 2022.
Digit
The 2023 Digit added a head, improved hands and a taller frame, and is the version Agility Robotics sells as a service for moving totes in warehouses. It was the first humanoid with a paid, multi-year commercial deployment (GXO, 2024) and is built at Agility's RoboFab factory. Schaeffler invested in Agility in 2024 and planned to deploy Digit in its plants.
Digit (v1 to v3)
Digit added a torso, arms and perception to the Cassie legs and was first shown in February 2019. Ford bought the first two units in 2020 for last-mile delivery research, and v2 and v3 added better perception and hands-free manipulation of totes. These versions were superseded by the 2023 Digit.

GXO signs the first commercial humanoid Robots as a Service agreement with Agility
After a pilot at a Spanx facility in Georgia, GXO Logistics signs a multi year agreement to deploy Digit as a service, moving totes from autonomous mobile robots to conveyors. It is described as the first formal commercial deployment of humanoids in logistics.
Amazon starts testing Digit in a Washington warehouse
Amazon announces at its Delivering the Future event that it is testing Digit for tote recycling at a facility south of Seattle, after investing in Agility through its Industrial Innovation Fund. It is the first humanoid pilot at Amazon.
Ford becomes the first customer for Digit
At CES 2020, Ford and Agility announce that Ford will take the first two production Digit units to research last mile delivery from self driving vans. It is the first sale of a commercial humanoid to a carmaker.
